Analysis of the markets we lend into.
The UK mid-market lending gap
Bank appetite for mid-market corporate lending has narrowed steadily since 2023, and the businesses feeling it first are those with turnover between £2 million and £20 million — too large for the fintech lenders, too small to interest a syndicate desk.
Our reading of the market is that the gap is structural rather than cyclical, driven by capital treatment rather than by credit performance.
Specialist mortgage conditions
Complex-income mortgage volumes have grown while mainstream approval rates for the same borrower profiles have fallen. The two facts are related.
